What a fantastic day! Huge crowds- all well behaved and happy- what more could we ask for.
Friday was a trying day for the Festival Committee setting up in the windy and wet conditions. However, we had many locals drop into the oval to help. Thank you to all of those people – many youths too – great to see.
We had many highlights at the Festival this year. Scitech and the Hall drew large crowds, all looking at the collections and trying their hand at science experiments. The Kids Stage also saw large crowds enjoying Phil Doncons Paint Storm and Dream State Circus and the nearby attraction of Tim the sand sculptor – how clever was he! Phil Depiazzi’s commentary of the goat races organised by Sharyn Dauti kept everyone amused and the Down on the Farm arena allowed everyone to learn about our farm animals and think about the combined weight of Peter and Judy Milton’s Charolais bulls. The art exhibition in the Thomas Little Hall showcased the talents of our local artists and the Over the Rainbow Trail, new to the Festival was very popular. The Perth Highland Pipe Band led the Festival procession made up of local children carrying puppets and banners created in the Rainbow Art project held in the school holidays. The kids craft marquee was extremely popular with 600 craft kits used – wow! The Main Stage provided local entertainment with the Dardanup’s Got Talent Quest and our other local talented musicians. Wonderful way to showcase the locals. Many Festival goers took the opportunity to sample local produce in the F.V. Wine and Beer marquee and the nearby Beer Tent kept our local Lions busy. As we predicted the Fire Sculpture finale was the best yet! Benotto Dogs thrilled the crowds jumping through the fire hoops and the 4 Dream State Circus fire twirlers were just spectacular. The excitement was built for the burning of Russell Sheridan’s Over the Rainbow themed fire sculpture with a record crowd awaiting the burning. Dream State Circus set the Bull alight with their fire canons and we all cheered and felt the heat on our faces as the 11th Festival came to an end.

The Festival will be held next year on 11th October and we look forward to seeing everyone there. The Committee will keep you updated during the year about our theme for 2014 and all the attractions you can look forward to.
Periodic showers had crowds at the 2012 Festival either running for cover or in the case of children, enjoying the excuse to get wet. The Hall and the Ferguson Valley Wine and Beer marquee were very popular places offering our Festival visitors shelter as well as lots of action with the vast array of quilts and kitchen memorabilia celebrating rural women and the display from the die cast club of all the miniature trains and vehicles. Festival visitors enjoyed sampling Ferguson Valley wines, beers, cheeses and tasty pizzas all while listening to the non stop music on the nearby stage.
New to the Festival this year was Mr Sparkles the Magician and Phil Doncon’s Paint Storm both performing on our new 2nd stage. Phil Doncon has promised to come back in 2013 as his energetic show was loved by everyone – just imagine Rolf Harris on steroids painting, for those old enough to remember his big slap dash paintings.
The Remote Control Trucks were new in 2012 and enjoyed by the big and little boys. They are coming back in 201
3 with some new tricks and want us to supply some sand for their large toys to move– can’t wait!
Our Festival visitors all love animals and in 2012 they were thoroughly spoilt with the addition of the Donkeys to our programme, the popular Miniature Horses in harness back from 2011 and Guess the Weight of Larry the Charolaise steer. The animal nursery organised by our own Dardanup P&F was very popular with the children and what’s more it’s free. Alongside the animal nursery was the Free Go for 2&5 Kids Activity marquee. Some 490 crafts made, play in the huge sand pit, drawing on the equally huge chalk table, fun with facepainting and play with colourful playdo made by our own Festival Committee, many young children had the time of their life.
The Festival finale was again a huge spectacle. Jacob and Sophie from Dream State Circus fire twirled and sent sparks flying in all directions. They are so clever and we love their performances during the day and in the evening. The burning of the bull then took centre stage. The best fire sculpture yet everyone exclaimed and no one thought any different. This year in keeping with our Year of the Farmer theme Russell Sheridan had created the bull driving a tractor with the farmer and his dog seated on the carryall. And it burnt spectacularly. Like to see that! Well it’s a shame you didn’t. But you have another chance.
Come along to the 2013 Festival and see what Russell has created this year.
